What Are The Two Common Types Of Carbon Steel Pipe

The two common types of carbon steel pipes are:

Seamless Carbon Steel Pipe: Seamless carbon steel pipes are manufactured without any welded joints or seams. They are made by piercing a solid cylindrical steel billet and then rolling it to form a hollow pipe. Seamless pipes offer uniformity in shape, strength, and wall thickness, making them suitable for high-pressure and temperature applications. They are commonly used in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, power generation, and refineries.

Welded Carbon Steel Pipe: Welded carbon steel pipes are manufactured by joining or welding steel plates or coils together to form a pipe. There are various welding methods used, such as electric resistance welding (ERW), submerged arc welding (SAW), and seamless pipe welding (DSAW). Welded pipes are available in different sizes and thicknesses and are commonly used in applications that do not require high pressure or temperature resistance. They find applications in industries such as water supply, plumbing, construction, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.

Both seamless and welded carbon steel pipes have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice between them depends on the specific requirements of the application, such as pressure, temperature, corrosion resistance, cost, and availability.
