overview

Electric resistance welded steel pipe, commonly known as ERW pipe, is made by heating steel with an electric current to form a weld. ERW pipe is highly efficient to produce and costs less than seamless pipe. It is often used in low-pressure fluid delivery, construction, and other fields. In addition to this, ERW pipe is also used in the automotive industry to manufacture components such as exhaust systems and vehicle frames.

Steel Grade

ASTM A106 and A53 pipes are available in different grades, each offering specific properties:

Grade A: Suitable for lower pressure applications with moderate strength requirements.

Grade B: The most commonly used grade, offering a balance of strength and ductility.

Grade C: Provides higher strength, suitable for more demanding applications.

Application

ASTM A53

Construction, underground transportation, extraction of groundwater during construction, steam water transportation, etc.
Bearing sets, mechanical parts processing.
Electrical applications: gas transmission, hydroelectric fluid pipelines.

ASTM A106
Especially for high-temperature services up to 750°F, it can replace ASTM A53 pipes in most cases. In some countries, at least in the United States, usually ASTM A53 is used for welded pipes, and ASTM A106 is used for seamless pipes. If customers ask for ASTM A53, they will also provide A106. In China, manufacturers will provide pipes that meet three standards ASTM A53 B / ASTM A106 B / API 5L B.
