What is carbon steel welded pipe?

Carbon steel welded pipes are manufactured by welding steel plates or coils together through processes such as Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) or Spiral Welding (SSAW). The manufacturing process involves material preparation, rolling the steel into a cylindrical shape, welding the edges, and inspecting the final product for quality.

02.

Carbon steel pipe welding process

Steel pipe welding processes include Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) for both high and low-frequency welding, Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) for thick-walled pipes, Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG)/Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding for high-quality welds in stainless steel and aluminum, Spiral Submerged Arc Welding (SSAW) for large-diameter pipes, and Butt Welding for connecting long pipe sections.

Carbon Steel Welded Pipe

1. Material preparation: Clean and pre-treat the steel plate or strip to remove rust, grease and other impurities on the surface to ensure the quality of subsequent welding.

2. Shearing and leveling: Shear the steel plate into appropriate size as needed, and level it through a leveling machine to ensure that the steel plate is flat.

3. Forming: Use a forming machine to roll the steel plate or strip into a tube. For straight seam welded pipes, use U-O forming or JCO forming process; for spiral welded pipes, the steel strip is formed in the direction of the spiral line.

4. Welding: Weld the formed steel pipe. Commonly used welding methods are electric resistance welding (ERW), submerged arc welding (SAW) and spiral welding (SSAW). Among them, electric resistance welding is suitable for thin-walled steel pipes, and submerged arc welding and spiral welding are suitable for thick-walled and large-diameter steel pipes.

5. Weld seam treatment: After welding, the weld is heat treated or machined to eliminate internal stress and improve the mechanical properties of the weld.

6. Cooling and straightening: After the weld is processed, the steel pipe is cooled and straightened by a straightening machine to ensure the straightness of the steel pipe.

7. Nondestructive testing: The weld is tested using nondestructive testing technologies such as ultrasonic testing and X-ray testing to ensure that the weld quality meets the standards.

8. Dimension inspection: The outer diameter, wall thickness, length and other dimensions of the steel pipe are inspected to ensure that they meet the specifications.

9. Coating and anti-corrosion treatment: According to the use requirements, the steel pipe is coated or anti-corrosion treated to improve its corrosion resistance and service life.

10. Packaging and storage: Finally, the steel pipe is packaged to avoid damage during transportation and storage.

Product Process

Electric Resistance Welding (ERW)

The steel plate or strip is rolled into a tube shape and then the seam is welded by electric resistance heating

Spiral Submerged Arc Welding (SSAW)

The steel strip is rolled into a tube shape in a spiral manner and then welded using submerged arc welding.

Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welding (LSAW)

The steel plate is bent into shape and then welded along the longitudinal seam, commonly used for thick-walled and large-diameter pipes.

High-Frequency Welding (HFW)

Utilizes high-frequency current to heat the edges of the steel strip and weld them together, typically used for small-diameter pipes.

FAQ

Q: What’s your MOQ?

A: If we have the products in stock, it will be no MOQ. If we need to produce, we can discuss the MOQ according to customer's exact situation

Q: How long is your delivery time?

A: The general delivery time is 30-45 days after receiving your order confirmation. Anther, if we have the goods in stock, it will only take 1-2 days.

Q: Do you provide sample ? Is it free?

A: If the sample is low value, we will provide the free sample with freight collect. But for some high value samples, we need to collect the sample charge.

Q: Commonly used carbon steel welded pipe materials

A: Common raw material steel grades for carbon steel welded pipes vary in different countries and regions. Common steel grades in the United States include A36 (for building structures and general purposes), A53 (for conveying fluids, especially low-pressure purposes), A106 (seamless carbon steel pipes suitable for high-temperature environments) and API 5L (for pipeline transportation in the oil and gas industry). Common steel grades in the European Union include S235JR (EN 10025) (for structural applications), P235GH (EN 10216-2) (for boilers and pressure vessels) and S355J2H (EN 10210) (for cold-formed structural purposes). Common steel grades in Japan include SS400 (JIS G3101) (for construction and bridge engineering), STPG370 (JIS G3454) (for pipeline conveying fluids) and STS42 (JIS G3455) (for high-pressure pipelines). Common steel grades in Russia include Ст3сп (for building structures), Ст20 (ГОСТ 8731/8732) (seamless pipes for fluid transportation) and 09Г2С (for low temperature environments). Common steel grades in China include Q235B (GB/T 700) (for building structures), 20# (GB/T 8163) (for fluid transportation pipelines) and 16Mn (GB/T 6479) (for high-pressure fertilizer equipment). These steel grades represent the specific regulations and application standards for carbon steel welded pipe materials in various countries and regions.
