TORICH Chromoly Square Tubing is manufactured using a seamless cold-drawn/cold-rolled process in accordance with ASTM A519 specifications. It features an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, excellent fatigue resistance, low-temperature toughness, and controllable heat-treatment properties, making it ideal for applications such as race car chassis, wheel hubs, suspension systems, engine mounts, and tubular space frames.

Compared to standard carbon steel, chromoly square tubing offers superior fatigue life and toughness; specifically, 4130 steel exhibits a fatigue limit (rotating bending) of approximately 330 MPa at a strength level of 690 MPa. It withstands repeated high-G cornering and jump impacts without crack propagation, effectively extending the service life of the chassis.


Chromoly tubing also boasts excellent high-temperature resistance and oxidation resistance, remaining stable and corrosion-resistant during prolonged exposure to the 150–250°C temperatures found near the engine, making it well-suited for the demanding conditions of racing engine bays and chassis assemblies.

 

Customized Services

 

  1. We provide deep processing services such as tube bending, punching, slotting, end reducing, end expanding, and profile cutting.
  2. TORICH offers CNC 3D tube bending services; minimum bending radii are determined by the cross-sectional design, and pre-welding of tube assemblies and column joints is available to reduce welding work for the customer.
  3. Customized heat treatment processes-including annealing, normalizing, quenching and tempering, and stress relief-are provided based on structural load-bearing requirements.
  4. We support various surface treatments, such as pickling and rust prevention, precision mirror polishing, sandblasting (matte finish), black oxide coating, galvanizing, and anti-corrosion coatings.

Possible Alternative Grades

 

  1. 4140 chromium-molybdenum steel is an upgraded version of 4130, featuring higher carbon and manganese content and superior resistance to deformation. It is suitable for critical components in top-tier race cars, such as high-strength load-bearing structures, suspension mounts subjected to extreme stress, and specialized roll cages.
  2. For non-critical load-bearing structures in entry-level race cars, karts, or recreational modified vehicles, 1025/1026 steel is a suitable choice due to its low cost, ease of processing, and high ductility.

A: A: We support a full range of custom heat treatments, including annealing, normalizing, and quenching & tempering. Annealed tubing offers excellent toughness, making it ideal for impact-resistant structures like roll cages; quenched & tempered tubing provides high strength, suitable for load-bearing components such as suspension parts and brackets. We can precisely match material properties to your specific application requirements.

Q: Does square chromoly steel tubing require rustproofing?

A: A: While 4130 chromoly steel offers better rust resistance than standard carbon steel, prolonged exposure to moisture or track debris (mud and water) makes surface treatments-such as sandblasting, black oxide coating, or painting-advisable to extend the tubing's service life.

Q: Can you cut bevels and fish-mouth (coping) profiles on the tube ends according to my drawings?

A: A: Yes. Please provide STEP or DXF files; we use CNC laser or plasma cutting and perform end-beveling to ensure the precision required for welding fit-up.
