TORICH U shaped steel pipe has successfully passed the EN ISO 3651-2 intergranular corrosion test, exhibiting no corrosion cracks under sensitized conditions; they are capable of long-term resistance to mixed corrosive media-specifically H₂S and Cl⁻-present in refinery crude oil.
Our tubular products operate stably over a temperature range of -196°C to +550°C, making them suitable for high-temperature, high-pressure applications such as hydrocracking and catalytic reforming.
Customized Services
- TORICH offers custom sizing for U-bent tubes, covering the full range of standard and non-standard dimensions for heat exchangers; standard bending radii include 1.5D, 2.0D, 2.5D, and 3.0D.
- We provide various surface treatment services, including pickling and passivation, internal and external mirror polishing, and electropolishing.
- We offer customized tube end finishes-including plain ends, beveling, flaring, and expanding-and can perform additional services such as precision cutting to length, deburring, and chamfering, all in accordance with specific requirements.

Possible Alternative Grades
- For crude oil preheaters-typically those operating without strongly acidic media and with a design temperature below 350°C-selecting 1.4307 (304L) as a substitute for 1.4404 (316L) offers excellent cost-effectiveness.
- For applications involving long-term heat exchange at high temperatures exceeding 400°C, the use of 1.4541 (321)-a titanium-stabilized stainless steel-is recommended as an alternative to 316L, as it effectively mitigates the risk of high-temperature sensitization and subsequent intergranular corrosion.
- For environments characterized by high chloride levels, acidic oil and gas, or seawater cooling, 1.4462 (2205) is a suitable choice; although its initial cost is higher than that of 316L, it offers a significantly longer service life.
application areas
Our EN 10217-7 stainless steel U-bent welded heat exchanger tubes are specifically designed for use in refinery heat exchangers. These applications include, but are not limited to, crude oil preheaters, atmospheric and vacuum distillation heat exchangers, catalytic cracking slurry heat exchangers, heat exchangers for hydrocracking and hydrotreating reactor effluents, coking fractionation tower heat exchangers, and heat exchangers for desalting and dehydration systems, among various other refinery units.

FAQ
Q: What is the minimum bending radius for U-tubes?
A: According to EN 10217-7 and TEMA standards, the standard minimum bending radius (R) is 1.5 times the outer diameter (R = 1.5D); however, this can be customized to meet specific client requirements.
Q: To what extent does the wall thickness decrease at the bend? Can this be compensated for?
A: The wall thinning rate at the thinnest point on the outer crown of the bend is controlled to remain within 12% of the original wall thickness. Upon client request, we can compensate for this thinning by selecting tubes with a slightly thicker wall before bending, thereby ensuring that the minimum wall thickness at the bend meets all design specifications.
Q: Compared to seamless tubes, are welded steel tubes more prone to cracking under the high-pressure operating conditions typical of refinery heat exchangers?
A: No, they are not. Our tubes undergo a rigorous dual inspection process-comprising 100% eddy current testing and hydrostatic testing-to ensure that the strength of the weld seam is fully equivalent to that of the base material.
