42CrMo alloy structural steel possesses a higher carbon content than 35CrMo alloy structural steel; consequently, it exhibits superior strength and enhanced hardenability. Furthermore, following the quenching process, the microstructure of 42CrMo alloy structural steel is more refined than that of 35CrMo alloy structural steel, and it is less susceptible to overheating during heating compared to 35CrMo alloy structural steel.


The respective operating temperature ranges for 35CrMo, 40CrMo, and 42CrMo alloy pipes are -20°C to 480°C, -20°C to 520°C, and -20°C to 550°C. These pipes are supplied in a Quenched and Tempered (Q&T) condition, a treatment that significantly enhances their mechanical strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance.

  1. SAE 4135: Commonly used in North America, it offers the same combination of tensile strength, yield strength, and hardenability after quenching and tempering.
  2. JIS SCM435: The SCM series of steels has a very similar alloy composition and excellent hardenability. They are commonly used in Asia for gears, shafts, and highly stressed mechanical parts.
  3. DIN 41CrMo4: Widely used in Europe in the automotive, machinery, and energy sectors. They offer consistent quality and meet the EN 10083 standard for heat-treatable steels.
