Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium-based superalloy capable of maintaining excellent strength, toughness, fatigue resistance, and creep resistance in high-temperature environments, while simultaneously possessing outstanding corrosion and oxidation resistance.
AMS 5589 Inconel 718 nickel alloy tube is suitable for operation within a temperature range of -253°C to approximately 700°C, enabling it to withstand the rapid temperature fluctuations experienced by an engine during the transition from startup to full power.
Furthermore, Inconel 718 exhibits excellent weldability. It is resistant to weld heat-induced cracking and can be joined using conventional welding methods, such as TIG, MIG, and electron beam welding.
Customized Services
- TORICH is able to customize solution annealing process parameters to meet specific application requirements; in addition to the standard AMS 5589 solution-annealed condition, we can perform full-tube aging treatments in accordance with customer drawings.
- In addition to standard bright annealing, we offer various surface treatments, including pickling and passivation, polishing, sandblasting, and anti-rust coating.

Possible Alternative Grades
- Inconel 625 also possesses excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature stability, while being lower in cost than Inconel 718.
- 316L stainless steel is suitable for use in aerospace applications involving low-to-moderate temperatures, low-corrosion environments, and non-load-bearing auxiliary piping.
- Inconel X-750 offers longer high-temperature fatigue life and superior oxidation resistance compared to Inconel 718, making it suitable for applications such as aircraft engine turbine casings and critical thermal-protection piping in spacecraft.

FAQ
Q: What is the heat treatment condition at the time of delivery?
A: The AMS 5589 tubing we supply is delivered, by default, in the solution-annealed condition (solution heat-treated at 1775°F / 968°C).
Q: What are the welding characteristics of Inconel 718 tubing?
A: Inconel 718 exhibits exceptional weldability. Compared to other precipitation-hardening nickel-based alloys, its primary advantage is its remarkably high resistance to post-weld strain-age cracking; it is highly resistant to cracking after welding.
Q: Can the tube ends be beveled or chamfered according to engineering drawings?
A: Yes. We possess advanced tube-end finishing capabilities and can provide custom configurations, including square-cut ends, beveled ends (e.g., 37.5° weld bevels), threaded ends, and flange-welding preparations with sealing faces.
