Welded Stainless Steel Coiled Tubing is manufactured from duplex stainless steel, a material that combines the characteristics of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. Compared to ferritic stainless steel, it exhibits superior plasticity and toughness, is free from room-temperature embrittlement, and demonstrates significantly enhanced resistance to intergranular corrosion as well as improved weldability. Simultaneously, it retains certain characteristics typical of ferritic stainless steel-such as susceptibility to 475°C embrittlement and high thermal conductivity-while also possessing unique properties such as superplasticity.
Duplex stainless steel 2205 possesses excellent weldability and exhibits low susceptibility to both cold cracking and hot cracking during welding. Generally, neither preheating prior to welding nor post-weld heat treatment is required.
2507 is a "super duplex" stainless steel; its Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) reaches 43, a value significantly higher than that of other stainless steels. However, 2507 is not suitable for service environments involving extreme temperatures; at temperatures below -50°C or above 300°C, the material's toughness will be compromised.
Customized Services
- The tubing is supplied in a coiled form and can be customized according to client drawings into various configurations, including spiral coils, serpentine coils, and irregularly shaped coils.
- We offer customized sizing services, covering an outer diameter range of 3 mm to 219 mm and a wall thickness range of 0.5 mm to 25 mm, with tolerances maintained within ±0.05 mm. We also support the design of specialized dimensions.
- We provide end-finishing services, including preparation for compatibility with ferrule-type and flared tube fittings, as well as the threading of NPT/NPTF connections in compliance with API standards.

Possible Alternative Grades
- For tubing applications involving low pressure, continuous non-contact immersion in seawater, and the absence of H₂S/CO₂-bearing acidic media, 316L or 317L stainless steel may be utilized. These materials offer lower costs and can serve as alternatives to S32304 for use in marine atmospheric zones and non-pressure-bearing auxiliary coils.
- For environments characterized by high H₂S/CO₂ concentrations, high chloride ion levels, high temperatures, and severe corrosivity, Incoloy 825 is the recommended choice, as its corrosion resistance surpasses that of S32750.
Applications areas
The ASTM A789 Welded Stainless Steel Coiled Tubing manufactured by TORICH is primarily utilized on offshore oil and gas platforms, including for chemical injection systems, instrument air lines, hydraulic control lines for subsurface safety valves (SCSSVs), and hydraulic power systems.

FAQ
Q: What is the maximum working pressure?
A: Calculated in accordance with ASME B31.3, the pressure for standard operating conditions ranges from 8 to 50 MPa; for small-bore, high-pressure coiled tubing, it can reach upwards of 70 MPa. The actual pressure rating depends on the pipe diameter, wall thickness, material grade, operating temperature, and weld quality.
Q: Is solution treatment mandatory for duplex stainless steel after welding?
A: Yes. For offshore oil and gas applications, post-weld solution heat treatment is mandatory to restore the proper balance of the duplex microstructure, relieve residual stress, prevent the precipitation of harmful phases, and ensure both corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Our tubing is supplied in a solution-treated condition.
Q: In which specific areas of offshore platforms are these products primarily utilized?
A: Applications include wellhead hydraulic control lines, oil and gas gathering and transmission systems, separator heat exchange coils, seawater cooling and desalination systems, fire protection systems, water injection and gas lift lines, deep-sea riser ancillary systems, ballast water systems, and more.
