Grade 2 Grade5 Titanium Tube are the two most commonly used titanium alloys. Grade 2 titanium is commercially pure titanium (non-alloyed) with strong corrosion resistance, suitable for heat exchangers and condensers, medical implants, etc. Grade 5 is a titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) containing 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. It is the most commonly used high-strength titanium alloy suitable for aerospace, automobiles, etc.

The difference between Grade 2 and Grade 5 Titanium 

 

  • From the material point of view, grade 2 titanium is mainly pure titanium with small amounts of other elements; grade 5 titanium is an alloy containing aluminum (6%) and vanadium (4%), so it is Ti-6Al-4V.
  • From the performance point of view, grade 2 has better corrosion resistance, especially in corrosive environments such as seawater, while grade 5 is not as corrosion resistant as grade 2 in seawater environments; and grade 2 is easier to weld and form, while grade 5 has higher strength but is harder to manufacture.
  • Grade 5 can improve its mechanical properties through heat treatment, while grade 2 cannot. In addition, the cost of grade 5 is higher than that of grade 2.

Possible Alternative Grades

 

  • Grade 11: Softer than Grade 2, best corrosion resistance, can be used in medical, laboratory, chemical tanks, etc.
  • Grade 3: Higher strength than Grade 2, but poorer formability, can be used for industrial pipes, shipbuilding purposes, etc.
  • Grade 9: Ti-3Al-2.5V, medium strength alloy, can be used for aerospace pipes, bicycle frames, etc.
  • Grade 12: Molybdenum and nickel are added to titanium alloy to improve corrosion performance, and can be used in chemical and industrial environments.

 

Packaging


Once the pipes have passed all inspections and tests, they are ready for packaging. They are usually packaged in bales wrapped in plastic.
