In air or oxygen-containing media, a dense TiO₂ passivation film spontaneously forms on the surface of titanium materials; this film is capable of withstanding high chloride ion concentrations of up to 60,000 mg/L-a corrosive environment that is 5 to 6 times more aggressive than what stainless steel can endure.

Titanium has a thermal conductivity of 17 W/(m·K), whereas aluminum brass is 100 W/(m·K) and 70/30 cupronickel is 29 W/(m·K); thus, titanium possesses the lowest thermal conductivity among these materials. However, when thin-walled titanium tubes are utilized, their heat transfer performance-while inferior to that of aluminum brass-is comparable to that of 90/10 cupronickel and superior to that of 70/30 cupronickel.

Since seawater frequently contains suspended silt and marine organisms, these substances tend to accumulate on the inner surfaces and ends of heat transfer tubes, leading to the erosion of copper alloy tubing; furthermore, copper alloys are susceptible to corrosion induced by bromide ions (Br⁻) present in seawater. In contrast, TORICH 1.125in 2in 2.5in 3inch Od Titanium Tubing does not suffer from these issues, as the passivation film inherent to titanium materials provides natural resistance to the attachment of marine organisms.

Customized Services

  1. For tubing intended for use in condensers and heat exchangers, U-bending services are available.
  2. Surface treatments include pickling and passivation, bright annealing, internal and external mirror polishing, and anti-fouling coatings.
  3. We also provide end preparations such as weld beveling (V-type/U-type), threading (NPT/BSPT), flange prefabrication, flaring/swaging, and tube-expanding end treatments to minimize on-site construction work.

Possible Alternative Grades

  1. For low-cost, low-pressure applications, ASTM Grade 1 pure titanium is a suitable choice, offering superior ductility and being 6% to 10% less expensive than Grade 2. It is well-suited for non-pressure-bearing, thin-walled piping-such as instrumentation lines and sampling tubes-though its lower yield strength precludes its use in high-pressure main pipelines.
  2. For extreme operating conditions involving high-temperature seawater, acidic oil and gas environments, or susceptibility to crevice corrosion, ASTM Grade 7 is recommended; although its cost exceeds that of Grade 2, it offers a significantly longer service life.
  3. For high-pressure deep-sea environments and heavy-duty applications involving high vibration, ASTM Grade 9 is the preferred option; possessing a tensile strength 1.8 times that of Grade 2, it is ideally suited for high-pressure piping systems and deep-sea pressure-resistant equipment.

application areas

  1. 1.125-inch seamless titanium tubes are suitable for marine seawater cooling branch lines, instrumentation sampling lines, fire safety and life-saving tubing, ROV underwater robot seawater conduits, marine monitoring instrument tubing, and similar applications.
  2. 2-inch seamless titanium tubes are suitable for heat exchanger bundles in small- to medium-scale seawater desalination systems, water treatment piping for offshore platform living quarters, and auxiliary piping for underwater equipment.
  3. 2.5-inch seamless titanium tubes are suitable for main seawater cooling lines in marine main and auxiliary engines, cooling circuits for offshore wind power platforms, and piping for acidic media on offshore oil and gas platforms.
  4. 3-inch seamless titanium tubes are suitable for main cooling headers in large vessels and naval warships, main seawater fire-fighting lines on offshore platforms, emergency cooling circuits, high-pressure seawater intake lines for large-scale desalination plants, and similar applications.

FAQ

Q: Can you provide a classification society certification?

A: We can provide third-party certification from major classification societies-including ABS, DNV GL, LR, BV, and CCS-accompanied by EN 10204 3.2 certificates, thereby meeting the classification and acceptance requirements for marine vessels and offshore platforms.

Q: Can you customize non-standard lengths and bent pipes?

A: We support fixed-length cutting up to 12 meters and can prefabricate cold-bent pipes (1D–5D radius) as well as U-shaped heat exchanger tubes. End beveling and threading can also be customized to minimize on-site construction work.

Q: What maximum seawater temperatures can your products withstand?

A: Gr2 seamless titanium tubes can withstand seawater temperatures up to 100°C over the long term, while Gr7 tubes can withstand high-temperature seawater up to 150°C, with no risk of corrosive failure.
