Grade 2 titanium tubing exhibits virtually no corrosion in seawater, chloride, and salt spray environments, demonstrating superior corrosion resistance compared to 316L stainless steel and 70/30 copper-nickel alloys.
Grade 2 seamless titanium tubing is supplied in the annealed condition; it is capable of withstanding the high-pressure shocks inherent in seawater cooling systems and is highly resistant to deformation and fracture. The tubing features excellent weldability-requiring neither preheating nor post-weld heat treatment-and is readily amenable to cold bending, flaring, swaging, and other fabrication processes.
Customized Services
- TORICH supplies finished U-bent tubes manufactured in accordance with customer-provided bending radii and tube bundle drawings, suitable for direct assembly into various shell-and-tube heat exchangers and condenser tube bundles.
- Available surface treatment options include pickling and passivation, bright annealing, polishing (Ra ≤ 0.25 μm), electropolishing, or specialized anodizing.

Possible Alternative Grades
- For seawater cooling applications involving low pressure and low temperature, Grade 1 is the preferred choice; it offers superior ductility and formability compared to Grade 2, while also being more cost-effective.
- For applications requiring higher strength, Grade 3 is recommended; its mechanical properties are significantly superior to those of Grade 2, making it suitable for high-pressure piping in deep-sea desalination equipment, high-power cooling systems on offshore platforms, and similar applications.
- For desalination scenarios characterized by high chloride ion concentrations and elevated temperatures, Grade 12 is the optimal choice, as it exhibits superior resistance to crevice corrosion and pitting compared to Grade 2.
application areas
ASTM B861 Grade 2 seamless titanium tubes are widely utilized in seawater cooling and desalination systems, as well as in the broader field of marine engineering. Specific applications include:
Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) desalination units; Low-Temperature Multi-Effect Distillation (MED) desalination units; Reverse Osmosis (RO) seawater desalination systems; Power plant condensers; Marine seawater cooling systems; Offshore oil and gas platforms; and more.

FAQ
Q: Are Grade 2 titanium tubes truly completely immune to corrosion in seawater?
A: Grade 2 titanium tubes exhibit exceptional corrosion resistance in seawater, chlorine-containing media, and most industrial acid environments. Their annual corrosion rate is typically less than 0.001 mm per year, meaning they can be considered virtually "immune" to corrosion.
Q: Given that titanium tubes have a lower thermal conductivity than copper, why are they still used in heat exchangers?
A: Titanium tubes can operate safely with extremely thin wall thicknesses (e.g., 0.3–0.5 mm). Consequently, their actual overall heat transfer coefficient (K-value) can reach 2500–4000 W/(m²·K).
Q: Can you supply finished U-bent tubes?
A: Yes. The fabrication of U-bent tubes is one of our standard custom services. Customers simply need to provide the tube bundle drawings, including parameters such as the bending radius, straight section length, and tube spacing.
