321 stainless steel is a Ni-Cr-Ti type austenitic stainless steel, primarily utilized in the manufacture of corrosion-resistant industrial equipment operating in high-temperature environments ranging from 500°C to 800°C.


When 304 stainless steel is exposed to temperatures within the range of 425°C to 815°C (particularly between 550°C and 800°C), carbon diffuses toward the grain boundaries, where it combines with chromium to form chromium carbides. 321 stainless steel is a modification of 304 stainless steel involving the addition of titanium (Ti); this addition facilitates the formation of stable MC-type carbides (TiC), which effectively minimizes the formation of chromium carbides, thereby enhancing the material's resistance to intergranular corrosion and improving its high-temperature performance.
