Manufacturing Process

Production Process of Nickel Alloy Tubes And Pipes1

I. Tube Billet Manufacturing Process

1. Raw Material Preparation and Primary Smelting

  • Utilizing either base materials or composite materials, the feedstock undergoes electric arc smelting to produce molten nickel alloy.
  • If the composite material route is chosen, the molten alloy requires further purification via Vacuum Oxygen Decarburization (VOD) refining following the initial smelting.

2. Tube Billet Forming
The refined molten nickel alloy is processed through a centrifugal casting technique to produce the initial tubular billet.

3. Tube Billet Post-processing and Inspection

  • The centrifugally cast billets undergo cold drawing to adjust dimensional precision and roundness.
  • Surface machining is performed to remove scale and defects, thereby enhancing surface finish.
  • A comprehensive inspection of the billets is conducted to verify both internal and surface quality.
  • Conforming billets are moved to storage, awaiting subsequent processing into finished steel pipes.

II. Nickel Alloy Steel Pipe Manufacturing Process

1. Billet Heating
The centrifugally cast billets are first heated in a rotary furnace, followed by heating in an induction furnace, allowing for precise temperature control within the optimal hot-working range.

2. Hot Extrusion Forming
The heated billets undergo an extrusion process to be preliminarily formed into seamless steel pipes.

3. Cold Working and Heat Treatment (Two Parallel Process Paths)
Path A:

  • Heat Treatment: To relieve internal stresses and optimize the metallurgical microstructure.
  • Straightening: To correct the linearity of the pipe.
  • Sandblasting: To remove surface scale and clean the surface.
  • Cold Rolling: To precisely control wall thickness and outer diameter, thereby enhancing dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties.
  • Sawing: To cut the pipes to the specific lengths required by customer orders.
  • Inspection: To verify dimensions, as well as surface and internal quality.
  • Flaw Detection: To screen for internal defects using non-destructive testing methods (e.g., ultrasonic or eddy current testing).
  • Finishing: To perform final treatments such as chamfering and polishing.
  • Finished pipes are moved to storage.
