The "317L" in 317l Sainless Steel Pipe Tubing refers to an ultra-low carbon austenitic stainless steel, the core alloying elements of which are 18% Chromium (Cr), 12% Nickel (Ni), and 2.5% Molybdenum (Mo). Building upon the foundation of 304/304L, the addition of molybdenum (Mo) significantly enhances its resistance to corrosion by halides-particularly chloride ions (Cl⁻)-and specifically improves its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The "L" designation signifies "low carbon" (with a carbon content of ≤0.03%), thereby effectively preventing intergranular corrosion that can occur following welding.
The high salinity of marine environments poses an extremely severe corrosive threat to materials; furthermore, seawater is rich in chloride ions. 317L effectively resists both general and localized corrosion in seawater, outperforming 316L in this regard and demonstrating distinct advantages in deep-sea or high-velocity seawater environments.

Possible Alternative Grades
- For mild seawater conditions, TP316L is a suitable choice; it is 15–20% less expensive than 317L, while offering comparable welding and processing characteristics.
- If a grade with equivalent corrosion resistance is required, 2304 duplex stainless steel is an option; it matches the corrosion resistance of 317L while boasting significantly higher strength-more than double that of 317L.
- To address extreme seawater environments-such as those encountered on deep-sea oil and gas platforms or in seawater with high chloride ion concentrations-2507 super duplex stainless steel is recommended for its superior corrosion resistance.

Q: Why choose 317L instead of 316L for seawater applications?
A: Because 317L contains a higher molybdenum content, and 317L stainless steel has better resistance to intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking than 316L stainless steel.
Q: Does the pipe undergo solution annealing?
A: All our tubes are produced with solution annealing at 1050~1150℃ and rapid cooling, ensuring excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion, in full compliance with the mandatory requirements of ASTM A213.
Q: Can you cut to my required length?
