U Tube Heat Exchanger is suitable for applications involving large temperature differentials, as their design allows the tubes to expand and contract freely, thereby accommodating temperature fluctuations. Furthermore, they are capable of operating under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions-typically at temperatures of 450°C or lower and pressures of 6.4 MPa or lower.
The tube material undergoes solution treatment, a process that completely dissolves precipitated phases-such as carbides and sigma phases-into the austenitic matrix, resulting in a uniform, single-phase microstructure while thoroughly eliminating all residual processing stresses.
TP316 stainless steel contains 2–3% molybdenum, endowing it with robust corrosion resistance. Under typical operating conditions-specifically when the chloride ion (Cl⁻) concentration does not exceed 400 mg/L and the temperature remains below 130°C-TP316 stainless steel serves as a suitable material choice.

Possible Alternative Grades
- 254SMO is an ultra-low carbon specialty stainless steel that exhibits excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion. It is a suitable choice for environments where the chloride ion concentration exceeds 1800 mg/L but remains below 5000 mg/L, and the temperature is within 130°C.
- 904L super-austenitic stainless steel possesses excellent active-passive transition capabilities and exceptional corrosion resistance. It is suitable for environments where the chloride ion concentration in the medium exceeds 400 mg/L but remains within 1000 mg/L, and the temperature is within 130°C.
- For environments where the chloride ion concentration does not exceed 100 mg/L and the temperature is within 120°C, 304 stainless steel may be selected; furthermore, it offers a more cost-effective solution.
application areas
ASTM A213 TP316 U Tube Heat Exchanger is widely utilized in petrochemical and oil and gas facilities, including shell-and-tube heat exchangers, natural gas processing and cooling systems, offshore oil platform heat exchangers, as well as condensers and feedwater heaters in petrochemical plants.

FAQ
Q: What is the difference between TP316 and TP316L U-tubes?
A: The primary difference between TP316 and TP316L lies in their carbon content; TP316L has a lower carbon content, which reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion following welding, making it suitable for use in welded heat exchanger systems.
Q: How are the products packaged?
A: Each tube is protected by a plastic sleeve and packaged in wooden crates to prevent damage or contamination during transit.
Q: What is the maximum operating temperature for ASTM A213 TP316 heat exchanger tubes?
A: The continuous operating temperature for these tubes is approximately 800°C, and under intermittent operating conditions, they can typically withstand temperatures of up to 870°C.
